Episode 011: A Phenomenal Episode or Other Bad Pun
Top Welt! celebrates its 11th anniversary (just kidding) with Commander Angel Nova of the world's greatest space band, The Phenomenauts. Speaking of which, the guys announce Contest 002, a Phenomenauts-themed contest for a signed copy of Re-Entry. In music, Kevin and Bill review live shows like Warped Tour Milwaukee, The Tossers, Epoxies, Phenomenauts, & Teenage Bottlerocket. New albums by Blackpool Lights, The Bouncing Souls, and Dead to Me are reviewed, as well as the upcoming DVD by Flogging Molly, Whiskey on a Sunday, and Bomb the Music Industry's most recent release. In movies, Nacho Libre, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and High Fidelity are all covered in one way or another. Rainbow Wars, Ghost Recon: Advanced War Fighter and GTA: Liberty City Stories are examined in video games. Television isn't that exciting, as DX's return to Raw is the only thing covered. (At least we're honest). From there, we interviewed the Commander, discussing the beginnings of The Phenomenauts, playing guerilla shows and sneaking onto the Warped Tour. We talk about the possibilities and limitations of having a space themed band, and why NASA hasn't officially recognized The Phenomenauts yet. The influences of the band are also discussed, as well as less serious things, like how the band passes time on the road, space movies, and video games, including and in depth look at dying in Tomb Raider. Of course, the whole interview is based on the motto of The Phenomenauts, Science and Honor. Songs on this episode include 'Mission', 'Rocket Roll (live)', and 'Where is the X-38?' by The Phenomenauts, as well as 'James's Story' by Yello Snow.
