Episode 012: The Tim McIlrath and the Top Welt! or Blowing Things Up with Rise Against
This very special 4th of July episode of Top Welt! features and in-depth interview with Tim McIlrath from Rise Against, and announces Contest 003, for a copy of the episode signed by Tim. In the interview, the guys talk about the inner-workings of Warped Tour, as well as the basement show they played back in April. The new album, The Sufferer and the Witness is delved into, including recording with Bill Stevenson, the two videos they made, and an explanation of 'The Approaching Curve', the surprising spoken-word, story-infused track on the new album. McIlrath also reveals some touring plans after Warped and the complications of being vegetarian on tour. They also discuss what it's like being a major label punk band and how they stick to their beliefs regardless of what tour they're on, or who is putting out their records. For the rest of the episode, Bill and Kevin offer some 4th of July words of wisdom. Album reviews include Rise Against's Sufferer and the Witness and The Living End's State of Emergency. In live reviews, the Unholy Alliance Tour and The Swellers are covered, and Avenged Sevenfold's new video is dissected. In movies, Superman Returns is reviewed and the Casino Royale trailer is looked at. Other coverage includes Tetris DS, PS3's possible online problems, and one of the best graphic novels ever written, Watchmen. Songs on this episode include 'Heaven Knows' and 'Everchanging' by Rise Against, 'March of Dissent' by Hit the Switch, and 'Hellboy' by 1,000 Miles Ahead.
