Episode 029: A Candid Manifesto or This Was a Hard Interview to Get
It wasn't easy, in fact, we had to resort to begging and hassling to get this interview, but we're glad we did. Top Welt! is very happy to present an interview with Tomas Kalnoky of the incomparable Streetlight Manifesto. The interview includes comments on the Reel Big Fish tour, as well as Kolnoky's feeling about being labeled ska. It goes on to address some of the controversy surrounding the re-recording of Keasbey Nights. Tomas is very candid on the topic of the Hawthorne Heights/Victory Records scandal, as well as with labels in general. Other topics include his departure from Catch 22, art school, if new music is ever coming, European influences, Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution, and Kevin's Smith representation of Jersey. Also, he explains why the band tends to stay in hiding from the press and fans, and why it's important that they feel they accomplish things on their own terms. Music coverage includes a live review of Social Distortion and Supersuckers. It also includes reviews of two Weird Al albums; one new, and one classic. In movies, Fearless, Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World, Beerfest, and UHF are reviewed. Songs on this episode include 'Everything Went Numb', 'Point/Counterpoint', and 'Here's to Life' by Streetlight Manifesto and 'My Israel' by The Widow Jenkins.
