    Theatres actually don't invest in digital and 3-D conversions. These analog-to-digital projection costs are incurred by the studios and distributors (at last week's Whistler Film Festival, one Canadian distributor said digital conversion costs his company $250 per minute of film). This money is supplied by a "third-party provider," who buys the equipment, then charges the studios a virtual print fee.
