Journey for Survival
In September 2005, 283 buses carrying over 12,000 Hurricane Katrina Evacuees stopped at the Big Town Mall parking lot on their way to temporary shelters in Dallas, Fort Worth, and other cities. The purpose of this staging area was to provide a rest stop with medical aid and refreshments for the evacuees. With only 90 minutes to prepare, a multi-agency operation of unprecedented proportions was undertaken with impressive results. This video collects and shares a few memories of the emergency personnel that worked during that hot labor day weekend.
